Frank Hurley, born James Francis Hurley in Sydney, Australia, on October 15 1885, was a photographer and cinematographer. He left school without qualifications and worked in a steel mill before completing his education at the University of Sydney. Aviator, test pilot, motor car driver and mechanic. Born Corowa, NSW in 1888. Lang worked in a variety of jobs in the motor industry including mechanic, car salesman, chauffeur and touring car driver. In 1915 Lang trained as an aircraft pilot in England, later working as an instructor and serving on the western front.
